HbA1c

Also known as: Haemoglobin A1c, glycated haemoglobin
Related tests: Glucose, microalbumin
Common Questions
  1. Is there a home test for HbA1c?
2. Are all HbA1c tests the same?

1. Is there a home test for HbA1c? Yes. HbA1c can be measured at home but it is not commonly done and can be expensive.

2. Are all HbA1c tests the same? There is an international effort to standardise HbA1c tests. Many, if not most, tests are standardised to a method certified in a large clinical study referred to as the DCCT (Diabetes Complications and Control Trial). You can ask your doctor if the lab doing your test is using a standardised method.
